IRANIAN MISSILE DEBRIS STRIKES JERUSALEM’S OLD CITY AS ESCALATION THREATENS CHRISTIAN HOLY SITES

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A projectile fragment fell in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City during Iranian missile strikes this week, landing near the walls and in proximity to major holy sites including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Israeli officials attributed the impact to Iranian ballistic missile attacks and isolated the area. Separately, Auxiliary Bishop William Shomali of Jerusalem reported that Israeli settlers have escalated attacks on Christians in the West Bank, including threats restricting access to land, physical aggression, and burning Christians’ cars in the Taybeh area. The convergence of missile impacts and settler violence places the Holy Land’s Christian community under pressure from two directions simultaneously.
ASSESSMENT
What this means: The Iranian missile fragment near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre transforms a regional military escalation into a direct threat to global Christianity’s most sacred ground. Combined with settler aggression in Taybeh, the Holy Land’s Christian presence faces compounding pressure where neither side of the conflict treats Christian communities as neutral. This is the first time in the current Iran-Israel escalation cycle that projectile debris has struck inside the Old City walls — bringing the conflict to the doorstep of sites held sacred by two billion Christians worldwide.
Who’s at risk: Palestinian Christians in the West Bank — particularly in Taybeh and the Jerusalem corridor — face physical displacement and property destruction from settler violence, now overlaid with direct missile strike risk. Christian clergy, pilgrims, and residents in and around the Old City are exposed to collateral damage from Iranian ballistic strikes and Israeli intercept debris. The small but enduring Christian communities of Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Ramallah are caught between two belligerents, neither of whom treats their presence as a restraining factor.
Outlook: Watch for continued missile exchanges impacting Jerusalem’s Old City and surrounding Christian sites as the Iran-Israel escalation shows no signs of de-escalation. Any direct hit on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Via Dolorosa, or the Garden Tomb would constitute a global flashpoint for Christian communities far beyond the region. Settler violence in the West Bank is likely to intensify in parallel, compounding displacement pressure on Palestinian Christians. Organizations with personnel in the Holy Land should review evacuation protocols and establish communication plans with local partners.

PRAYER WATCH
This week we ask the global Church to lift up three urgent fronts in prayer.
First, pray for the Christian community in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Iranian missile fragments have landed in the Old City near the holiest ground in Christendom. In Taybeh — one of the last majority-Christian villages in Palestine — settlers threaten families, burn cars, and restrict access to land. Believers in the Holy Land are caught between two fires. Pray for their protection, for the preservation of the Christian presence in the land where it began, and for the peace of Jerusalem.
Second, lift up the pastors and Christian families of Cuba. A shepherd was jailed for sharing the Word of God on YouTube. A sixteen-year-old boy was taken from his family because his father leads a church. The regime has moved from watching to striking. Pray for their release, for courage that does not bow, and for the Cuban Church to stand firm under pressure that is designed to break it.
Third, remember the children of Pakistan’s Christian community — the girls taken from their families and forced into marriages they did not choose, and the families whose identity as believers is denied by the state that is supposed to protect them. Pray for rescue, for justice that does not look away, and for advocates who will not rest.
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
